I Remember It Well – Duet
When I first heard these wonderful
recordings last year, I was amazed that they
had survived, undiscovered, for over 40 years.
My reaction was one of tremendous excitement,
to hear my father singing fresh material after
all this time, but, on reflection, the songs
are even more significant since they represent
a range of missing broadcast material from
that era, songs that I thought had been destroyed.
This is what makes this particular album so
intimate and historically important. I was
particularly touched to hear on the raw masters,
my father dedicate “The Heart Of A Man”,
recorded 20th June 1959, to myself and my
mother in celebration of my birth.
A second rarity on this assignment
is the fascinating interview that accompanies
this album. Like the songs, it lay forgotten
and unpublished for decades. Noted journalist
and author, Stan Britt, who interviewed dad
on several occasions throughout his career,
had the professional foresight to preserve
his achieved recordings and I am very grateful
that he has allowed us to transcribe those
interviews and share them with you.
I hope that you enjoy this
long overdue album of rarities that provides
a unique glimpse into my father’s early
broadcast recording history at a time when
he was on the brink of world fame.
