NEWS

March 2015

Richard here again I’m afraid – Michele is still having communication problems so hasn’t been able to send me an update. Hopefully she will be able to write something next month but it’s quite likely that it won’t be until her return on 4th April, so do excuse us if the updates are a little bit late.

There isn’t much new to report this month as most of my time has been spent trying to get publicity for the new CD and DVD.  On 27th February Joe Marchese posted a great review of the CD on his site “The Second Disc”. Read it Here

Being a small label I don’t have the resources to advertise the disc like the major labels so any publicity is greatly received. Should anyone have any suggestions as to publications or websites that might be interested in reviewing the disc do let me know via the Mint Audio records e-mail address sales@mint-audio.co.uk.

If you have the CD please go and review it at Amazon.

If you haven’t yet ordered your copy, Matt’s new CD “Operation Santa Claus – Live in Hong Kong 1962” is available directly from Mint Audio or Amazon.co.uk

The new DVD “Around The World” has now hit the shelves and is also getting good reviews at Amazon.  There have been some last minute changes due to Odeon receiving the wrong footage.  The track listing is now: -

Bonus Tracks

Saturday Night at The Mill
If I Never Sing Another Song

The Mike Walsh Show
The Second Time Around

You’ll notice that ‘Somewhere’ from the Mike Walsh Show, ‘For Once In My Life’ from the Des O’Connor show and ‘You Bring Out The Best In Me’ from Pebble Mill are missing. Unfortunately The Mike Walsh footage arrived from Australia just before the final edit and they had sent ‘The Second Time Around’ instead of ‘Somewhere’. The BBC reported that they could not supply the footage of Pebble Mill and Odeon thought they had a copy of the tape from one of their other projects. This turned out to be ‘Saturday Night At The Mill’ previously featured on the “Matt at The BBC” CD/DVD set. Why the BBC said they couldn’t supply the footage is not clear as they definitely have it – The estate has it on an old VHS tape sent to us by the BBC about seven or eight years ago and if they had it then they will have it now!

There is a silver lining to this. The plan had been to not repeat any songs on the set, which was why we didn’t include ‘Second Time Around’ from Mike Walsh in the original track listing or ‘You Bring Out The Best In Me’ from the Russell Harty Show. As the Pebble Mill show wasn’t available  this was substituted instead and The Mike Walsh footage was added as a bonus track. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to issue the missing material in the future.
This set was a labour of love for Michele and I. We’ve been on the trail of TV companies for many years. We weren’t able to issue everything we wanted due to some stupidly high licensing costs, but perhaps one day the companies will see that allowing us to use footage at a price that won’t bankrupt us is a better idea than them gathering dust on a shelf never being seen again.  There is some fabulous footage of Matt on the Ed Sullivan, Mike Douglas and Steve Allen Shows in the US and the Don Lane Show in Australia for instance that are great.

Odeon have produced a short video promoting the release which you can see below

In other news Matt Jnr has just returned from his tour of the Philippines and I’m sure Michele will be able to fill you in on that and her travels next month.

In a change from last month’s  Schedule Michele and Matt are now featured on a special show hosted by Tom Stevens on Siren FM being broadcast on Easter Bank Holiday Monday 6th April between in Lincolnshire on 107.3 fm or listen online at http://www.sirenonline.co.uk/

The Monro Estate and Odeon Entertainment have recently teamed up with the Sky Arts channel to bring An Evening With Matt Monro to the first time on UK TV . It will be coming to Sky Arts this Spring for its TV premiere. Please send an email to Sky when it’s broadcast asking for more of Matt! You never know what else it may lead to.

A few notes now about Michele’s travels. These are the dates she has booked for 2015

14 June – 27 June – Celebrity Eclipse
19 July – 2 August – Celebrity Constellation

Unfortunately i've not had time to up date the Spotlight feature this month, so for the second month we feature Matt’s great friend, Dave Allen.  The feature also contains a couple of rare shots of Matt with Dave on his show Tonight with Dave Allen in 1968 (This show is now lost – unless of course you know otherwise!). There are lots of past spotlights you can look at - go to the links at the botom of the page - featuring many of Matt's contempories, freinds and fans. If your a glutton for punishment there's even one about me there somewhere!

Check out the ‘Rough Guide to mattmonro.com’, which is available towards the bottom of the Homepage. If you don’t know how to access certain areas of the site or in fact are unaware of new areas, this guide will explain how easy this website is to get around, once you know how.

There is also another information box “How to Use the Forum’. I know a lot of people have been tempted to join in on some of our conversations but are slightly nervous of doing so. For that reason I have printed step-by-step instructions of how to access it. It really does only take a few minutes.

Until next Month

All the very best

Richard Moore
